Veterinary Physiotherapy is a science-based, holistic approach to treating patients, taking into consideration each patient’s clinical history and providing a thorough functional assessment of the animal to formulate a safe, effective and evidence-based treatment plan.
Treatment will typically involve a combination of the following modalities:
- Manual Therapies – these include techniques such as massage therapy, joint mobilisation and manipulation, stretching and myofascial release.
- Electrotherapies – at Essex Veterinary Physiotherapy services, we can provide treatment in the form of pulsed electromagnetic therapy, TENS and NMES. These modalities can effectively compliment other treatment methods to promote healing, reduce pain, treat inflammation and promote muscle strengthening and conditioning.
- Remedial Exercise – through specific exercises tailored to each animal’s individual condition and fitness, remedial exercise can improve proprioception, aid gait reeducation, encourage limb use, promote muscle strengthening and conditioning, improve balance and stability and increase joint range of motion and flexibility.
- Management Advice – if your animal has a specific condition or injury, advice may be required regarding their day-to-day management to enable them to make a smooth and efficient recovery.
